It’s amazing what photo ops one can find just wandering around.
Last Sunday my friend Cyril and I decided to do a shoot, even though dark had already fallen. We wandered around the Whitaker, looking for interesting light. After taking shots at a few outdoor locations we saw a full-sized wine barrel upended on a porch under a somewhat antique-looking light. If only the light was turned on, we’d have some cool photos.
What did we do? We decided to go inside the mysterious establishment and see if they’d be willing to turn on the light. It turned out to be a sweet little wine bar at 255 Madison – otherwise known as the Eugene Wine Cellars. The bulb in that porch light was burnt out, but that didn’t matter – they had a total gem inside: a full event space complete with a stage, colored lighting, lots of wine barrels, and cartoons being projected onto the wall. (Scooby Doo was this night’s entertainment.)
The room was empty and the staff were quite welcoming to us. We ended up spending maybe an hour in there getting all sorts of different shots.
The best part of all were the cameo appearances of Scooby and his pals:
