A year or more ago I noticed that my stock photo site was looking for images of a woman walking a dog in cold weather. I’d resolved to meet this request and had a model and her dog set up for it, but then life got busy. Stock photography is far from my first priority, so I let it go.
Fast forward to now.
It’s summer and the need for a woman walking a dog isn’t listed anymore as a photo request, but why not shoot anyway?
So Barrett Barnett, her Samoyed Husky September, and I went for a walk down the River Rd. bike path near the end of Merry Lane in Eugene.
This is a bit of what we came up with.
The problem is, is that I think I’m far too artistic in my images for stock photography. Still, I like my images and Barrett was really wanting some lovely photos showing her connection with her Samoyed Husky, September.
Pet portraits can be very challenging, esp. if the canine in question hasn’t had a chance to let their energy out! September was either raring to race away or tired from all the exertion – it took a bit of patience to get the connected moments.
Still, we got some fun shots.
Of course, they’re probably a bit too fancy for stock photography, but Barrett said she loves them and I’m quite happy with how they turned out.
I have to say, I love, love, love the lens I was working with – the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 (f/4.5 seems to be the sweet spot with this lens). Super affordable and it just has this “secret sauce” of a look – much nicer than its more expensive counterparts, in my opinion.
Even with the fading sunlight (we were shooting at the golden hour), these photos took very little editing.
Have a furry friend you’d like to be photographed with? Been meaning to get pet portraits showing your unique connection, but haven’t gotten around to it? Drop me a line! As always, I work on a gift economy!
These shots really show the love between Bare and her dog. I can’t stop admiring them.
These turned out SO well! September is such a sweet goofy furball and Bare is an absolute darling of a human being. Hard not to make magic happen when you have stunning scenery and models. Hope you do more shoots with them! <3
